She could still feel the fear and the anger from that day. The day that had changed her life forever, though she wasn’t sure if it was for the best or for the worst. It had been an ordinary day just like any other in the orphanage with kids running around and a couple of fights. It was one of those fights that changed everything. Lauren Hayberger had been picking on her again because of how pale she was. Her skin was too smooth and her skin was too pale. It was ‘unnatural’ the other girl said. Lauren had suggested to put some color in her face before throwing some red paint onto her.
After that Natalya isn’t sure what exactly happened but she swung at the other girl and slapped her, but as her hand connected with her cheek, Natalya left a set of deep scratches on the other girls face while the group that had surrounded them backed up. The room fell into a hush as Natalya looked at her hands in shock before backing away, her eyes wide as she watched what looked like claws retreat back into her nail beds and return to looking like normal nails. “Freak!” was the first of the insults thrown before the other kids started throwing things at her. After that, she fled. Natalya took to the streets and for the longest time she lived alone, stealing what she had to in order to survive. While she was living on the streets she found out more about her new ‘powers’.
Natalya found out that she could shift her appearance and that was how she was able to survive for so long without being caught. She also found out that she had fangs and eyes like a feline but her claws she could extend at will. Or at least, that’s what she called them, her claws. They were just normal nails that got longer and shortened at will, but she decided to go with claws because of her teeth and eyes.
But then one day she was contacted by someone… given a choice to make her life better and to do something with her life. And offer to attend a school for the gifted, for other children like her. So she decided to check it out before making up her mind. Natalya looked up at the building as she approached it, pausing outside of the doors. Taking a deep breath, she reached out and opened the door before entering, shifting her bag on her shoulder while looking around.
Natalya was dressed in baggy, ripped up jeans with a simple white t-shirt on and a pair of old sneakers while her hair was pulled up into a ponytail. She had a casual look to her but her body was tense, like that of an animal in unfamiliar territory.
